Christians at the Liverpool Business Summit

John Manwell reports,

Twelve months before the scheduled date of the Summit the Lord was already making it clear that we needed to have a Christian presence because the financial and business world would be in turmoil by then. The goal was to present the Kingdom of God in a business conference with two particular targets:

The pictures alongside give a pictorial summary of what happened.  In essence we rented a 12 square metre stand in a prime location at the conference – where 850 business and educational leaders gathered for two days. The 12 metres was enlarged by the organisers to 20 square metres a couple of days before the event. A total of 11 people assisted or represented the Kingdom on the stand over the two days.

We talked with a steady stream of people who came to the stand. Some were passing by – looking at the whole exhibition, some came specifically to encourage and join with us in the expression of our faith. Others came thoughtfully and deliberately to talk about their journey of faith and to enquire as to our motivation for being there.

The stand was designed to be readable from across the whole catering area adjacent to our position, and we noted that many people were reading and looking at our material from a “safe” distance!

The team prayed with several people over the two days and the general feedback from visitors was that they were encouraged, felt a degree of freedom to talk about spiritual things and to think about their personal faith in a work and whole life context.
