Prayer

2009: Year of Continuous Prayer - PRAYERFEST!

As you look down through the history of the Church there is no doubt that prayer changes nations, transforms society, delivers people from hardship and changes lives forever.

What an incentive to pray, especially in these days of shaking in our society!

Praying TOGETHER carries a special power, particularly when it is people from different expressions of church that are working together in it.

That’s why for 2009 we are planning to involve as many as possible in a chain of continuous prayer in churches around the Mersey Region. Wouldn’t it be great if fifty churches could be involved in an on-going chain of prayer, for a fundamental change in the nation, and for the region and communities in which we live? Can you imagine a time when the tangible presence of God is being frequently experienced; where peace and harmony reigns on the streets; where crime of all kinds is declining; where social problems are diminishing; where the media is taking notice of what God is doing both in the church and in society. That’s what we are praying for.

It’s not 24/7 - although it may be at times - see all the details on this page.

It’s not one particular style of prayer: we want to affirm and value all ways of praying, including yours.

Why not get your church to sign up? Look at the details of WHAT IS INVOLVED, and check out the CONTINUOUS PRAYER DIARY - it lists when churches have registered and the week they are taking during the year.

It is going to be an exciting time of prayer round the year. Each week a leader from one church will pass the baton on to the next by taking a prayer diary that each church fills in during the week, and prays for God’s blessing on that church.

One of the goals is that we pray for people in our communities. Just as Merseyfest blessed people through acts of kindness, so we aim to do the same through a sort of PRAYERFEST - prayers of kindness!

Radio Merseyside’s “Daybreak” will announce which church is praying each week, and from time to time interviewing key people involved. Make sure you listen on 95.8 Fm 1485 Am and DAB Digital Radio or LISTEN ONLINE

Other areas and groups in the nation are also aiming for continuous prayer over the next four years. You can explore this on the World Prayer Centre site
