Prayers for Liverpool across Transport Network 3 April 2009
A selection of prayers expressing people’s hopes and dreams for Liverpool are being displayed on trains and in bus shelters across Liverpool. The prayers were written as part of Prayer for Liverpool which took place over the New Year in and was organised by the Anglican Cathedral. Now they will be seen by commuters across Liverpool. Throughout April, posters displaying contributions will go on board every train carriage, 300 bus stops in North Liverpool and in Merseytravel’s bus timetables.
Justin Welby, Dean of Liverpool Cathedral, said: “We are delighted”. Neil Scales, Merseytravel Chief Executive and Director General said: “We wanted to play our part in this celebration of people’s hopes and aspirations for the city in 2009 and beyond.”

On Saturday 3rd January people from nearly twenty churches braved the cold weather to gather at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral for the launch of the Year of continuous prayer. Fifty churches are now registered for this prayer initiative, and this was celebrated in a time of worship and thanksgiving.

Deputy Chief Constable Bernard Lawson spoke at a gathering of church leaders at Grace Family Church on 16th January.
After talking about his personal faith convictions, he went on to say that his leadership is about the Force being a force for good that is trying to do good things and not wrong things. The Merseyside Police Force has four values: courage, integrity, respect and care, he said.
DAVE SHARPLES SPEAKS TO LEADERS ABOUT 4POINTS CAMPAIGN 11 Feb 09
At a specially arranged TFH Leaders Lunch, held at Grace Family Church on 11th February Dave Sharples from Frontline Church, who is the author of the widely used 4Points tract encouraged leaders to get involved with the Easter Campaign in April.
Dave explained how taxis across the region will be carrying the 4Points symbols to act as a point of contact with churches displaying the symbols on their notice boards and banners. It is particularly significant that we are doing this at a time when the atheists’ bus advertising slogans are current news. The talk was recorded and you can listen or download it here.

The Capital of Culture year was “kicked off” with a wonderful service in the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on 31st December 2007 and its conclusion is being marked by the Prayer For Liverpool exhibition in the cathedral well. Prayers from well known celebrities like Les Dennis and Steven Gerrard are exhibited alongside prayer from children. There is a space in the exhibition for people to record their prayers for the city in 2009. A prayer on behalf of TFH churches has been posted. The exhibition is from 29th December to 7th January
Christian Stand Finds Favour at Business Conference in the Liverpool Arena
Christians worked together to run a stand at the Liverpool Business Summit in October. Having originally booked a twelve square metre stand their site was doubled by the organisers and located in the best position possible. TFH’s John Manwell said, “We had great favour as we talked with a steady stream of people who came to the stand.”
Christian Network Leaders Meet To Plan For 2009
A very dynamic meeting of network leaders from across the Mersey Region took place at the Lighthouse on 29th October. Made up of people involved in several local groups of churches, they considered a number of initiatives that could contribute to the goals of harvest in and transformation of the region. Chaired by John Manwell of TFH there was a remarkable sense of unity as the gathering talked together about next year. Read the full story...
Churches Plan Year of Continuous Prayer For 2009
Interviewed for Radio Merseyside this week, John Cavanagh, prayer coordinator for TFH, outlined how churches are planning a year of prayer in which individual churches take responsibility for a week in the year. Each Sunday there will be a “passing of the baton” from one to the next, and one church will pray blessing on the next in line. The aim is to cover the year with prayer for a fundamental change in the nation and region, as well as praying for our communities. John says, “Just as through Merseyfest, churches aimed to serve the community with acts of kindness, in this “prayerfest” we can show care through our prayers. Any church can join in. We are looking for fifty churches to cover most of the year.”

Maranatha’s Dennis Wrigley Speaks To Leaders About The Economic Crisis 1 May 09
In a hard hitting message Dennis told leaders that our nation’s crisis is not an economic one but a spiritual crisis. He challenged the church to take seriously the spiritual bankruptcy of the nation by confronting the materialist attitudes of the nation with the power of the Gospel. “The secular experiment has been a spectacular failure” he said, and we change it by sounding the trumpet to the nation. He said he was full of hope, but entering into battle in obedience, recognising that there is a job for us to do that Jesus is calling us to.

QUARTER OF A MILLION VOTE CHRISTIAN 9 June 2009
In a first for a Christian party, the Christian Party and Christian People's Alliance
fielded candidates in every region in the nation. The words “Proclaiming the Lordship
of Christ” rang out at every centre as the results of the European Elections were
announced on Sunday 7th June. The campaign resulted overall in them coming eighth
in the election, with a total of 249,493 votes -
Federal executive member Dr Tom Rogers said, "The challenge is now to build on our result at grassroots level and begin to make ourselves known. We do not despise the day of small beginnings and look to our friends across Europe, who better established, have succeeding in returning Christian MEPs to the Parliament.”
In the Mersey Region the Christian parties picked up 2.2% of the votes cast, John Manwell reported. There were some stories of Christians going to vote unsure of who to vote for and finding the Christian Party on the ballot paper, and deciding to vote for them on the spot. Considering the short campaign of just three weeks this is a creditable performance.
DOZENS SAVED IN 4POINTS EASTER CAMPAIGN 9 June 2009
Over Easter, twenty six black cabs carried the 4points logo with the slogan “What Easter is all about” on the back as part of the 4Points Easter Campaign. There was no website address or phone number on the cabs: the plan was for local churches to connect with their communities by using the same 4Point logo on banners and leaflets. In total 35 local churches were involved and between them delivered almost 40,000 personal invitations. The main aims were to communicate the gospel in a clear and memorable way and to help local churches to invite people to their Easter service.
Many churches reported an increased turnout with some services packed. Dozens of people responded and many others left having heard a clear and memorable presentation of the gospel. Churches valued being part of a city wide campaign. One pastor wrote to say how much he appreciated the4point resources which had inspired his congregation to reach out to the community. Their Easter Service had exceeded expectation and they were thrilled to report a packed church and people saved.
CHURCHES PREPARE FOR WEEK OF PRAYER 11 June 2009
14th to 21st June has been chosen as a Week of Prayer for churches involved in the Year of Continuous Prayer. It is a week when all churches involved will encourage members to use the Prayer Guides provided by TFH to pray for their own borough and community, as well as for the whole region. Hundred of Christians are expected to be praying in this way over the appointed week. The prayer guides are produced to help individual Christians pray personally, but they can also be used in small groups or church prayer meetings as well. Some churches are planning to do this.

A team of people are prayer walking from Salford to Liverpool as part of the week. On Saturday they will walk and pray along the A580 up to Haydock, and on the Sunday (21st) from Haydock to Liverpool city Centre. Their aim is to strengthen relationships between the two regions in the North West, and publicize the link in prayer between them.
